We made it yall! Another year in the books…Another year of dropping the hottest mixes in the industry. Just when you thought that we couldn’t outdo ourselves, we’ve continued to push the envelope and bring you the hottest new music from some of the biggest and brightest DJs in the industry. Big up to all the DJ’s that held it down for us this year. We were fortunate to have a variety of DJs from all over the country including: DJ Wally Sparks (Big KRIT), DJ Wonder (Shade45), DJ Hyphen & J. Moore (Sunday Night Sound Sessions), and DJ Princess Cut (Hood Rich/Neiman Marcus). 2013 also saw the relaunching of the all-new 1200squad.com! And as we move forward our objective will remain focused on showcasing, and breaking new music for your mix-show, sets, and mix-tapes. So to properly send 2013 off, no other DJ represents this declaration more than one of the year’s most consistent DJ’s; TedSmooth (Straight Face…You Remember!)
Teddy Rafael Mendez p.k.a DJ TedSmooth has been a staple in the New York City club scene for two decades. His unique style earned him the title “The Remix King,” as his remixes have been attributed to taking a hit record to the next level. DJ Tedsmooth has been the force behind some of the hottest remixes including Jamie Foxx’s “Blame it”, Beyonce’s “Love on Top”, Jay Z and Justin Timberlake’s “Suit and Tie”, Miguel’s “Adorn” and Usher’s “Daddy’s Home” featuring Jadakiss, all receiving well over 100,000 hits. In 2009, Ted landed a spot in Funkmaster Flex’s Pitbull DJs, was named “Best Blend DJ” at the 2009 and 2010 Latin Mixx Awards. After earning a nomination for “Best DJ Producer” at the 2012 Global Spin Awards, Tedsmooth was named Best Remixer of the Year in 2013. He is currently the official DJ for Dyckman Basketball Tournaments, the #1 Streetball Tournament in New York City.
Ted’s brand reaches far beyond just the music industry. In his East Harlem neighborhood, he organizes a series of outdoor gatherings known as Tedsmooth’s Old School Jams. The annual series features musical performances by legendary DJs from all over the world. In addition, he hosts community-based events at La Casita Community Garden, which he’s managed for over 10 years. Ted Smooth is the epitome of what a DJ means to music and to the community.
With another year done, and 365 more days of upcoming music on the horizon, it’s an exciting time. Which artist will have the most impact in 2014? Who will fade away? What do some of our favorites have up their sleeves for the new year? As difficult as it is to predict, what we do know is that our favorite DJs will be there to put us on to what’s the hottest music we need to pay attention to. While we sit back and watch, remember that the Cornerstone Mixtape will always be there as the leaders in delivering the hottest new music, brought to you by the top DJs in the county.
Happy Holidays, Happy New Year, and remember in this new year, and years after, the DJ is the Cornerstone of Hip-Hop.
